Does anybody else find it strange that the Biden administration has such a strange fascination with Ukraine? I find it strange that the president, his brother, and his son have this, well, weird relationship with Ukraine and the Ukrainian government. Sure seems like Zelensky is making demands Vs asking for assistance. He sure doesn’t seem very grateful for all the taxpayer relief he’s getting! Remember that video of Biden bragging about getting Viktor Shokin fired for investigating a gas company tied to Hunter Biden for corruption? You know, the whole Burisma thing? Sure is odd that Russia invades Ukraine and the Biden administration is bending over backward to protect Zelensky and Ukraine? Can’t help but wonder if it is a US national interest or, is it somebody in the administration’s business interest?
So, I ask…does the US have a real vital interest in Ukraine? Ah…no it does not! Russia sure as hell has a vital strategic interest! Putin has made that quite clear! Biden and his administration have mistakenly ignored him. Probably the easiest way to explain Russia’s position is to make a comparison to the Russian missile crisis of the 1960s. Putin has consistently expressed that Russia needs a buffer between it and the NATO countries to feel safe. This is the same position America held during the Cuban missile crisis; a Russian presence in Cuba was too close to the United States and represented a strategic threat to the US. The US needed a buffer. Putin and the Russians hold the same view of Ukraine, they want it as a buffer. Not really much to ask for?
NATO forces in Ukraine represent a strategic threat to Russia. As NATO expanded eastward, Russia expressed concern to the US and NATO. In fact, Putin has expressed publicly to anybody who would listen for many years that continued NATO expansion eastward would be met with serious resistance, potentially military action. While Biden was vice president, his CIA director warned him that CIA political officers in the Moscow embassy reported increased hostility to NATO expansion universally across the entire domestic political spectrum in Russia. Despite this warning, NATO continued to expand.
The issue of Ukraine joining NATO really started in 2008. The American ambassador in Moscow advised then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice: “Ukrainian entry into NATO is the brightest of all redlines for the Russian elite (not just Putin). In more than two and a half years of conversations with key Russian players, from knuckle-draggers in the dark recesses of the Kremlin to Putin’s sharpest liberal critics, I have yet to find anyone who views Ukraine in NATO as anything other than a direct challenge to Russian interests.” Can’t get much clearer than that! Nobody should be surprised by the Russian reaction and subsequent invasion. I am not condoning the Russian invasion, merely acknowledging that it was entirely predictable.
The Biden administration has given Ukraine $54 Billion in aid. Nobody in the US government is providing oversight as to how the money will be sent. Biden and the administration have done the Ukrainians a great disservice in providing this aid. There is absolutely no way the Ukrainians can defeat the Russians. Providing military aid has given the Ukrainians false hope and only prolonged the inevitable. The Ukrainian military forces have been decimated. The infrastructure of the country has been decimated. Civilians have been injured and killed unnecessarily. Biden should have pushed for a negotiated settlement from day one. He didn’t and the outcome is all on him. Regardless of how this thing eventually ends, the United States loses. Russia and China have a new alliance. The US economy is teetering on the brink. The world is looking at oil, gas, and food shortages for the foreseeable future. A lot of people are going to be worse off because of Biden and the arrogance and stupidity of both the republican and democrat nimrods we’ve elected. Elections have consequences. Send these clowns back to the circus! Remember what our elected officials are doing to us.
